You may receive unemployment pension only if
- you were born before 1950
- you have turned 60
- you have worked for at least five years during the past 15 years
- you have received unemployment daily allowance for at least the 500-day maximum period
- you are an unemployed job seeker.
You can fill out an application when you have received a certificate from your unemployment benefit fund or Kela for applying for unemployment pension and it has been stamped by the Employment and Economic Development Office. The certificate can, at the earliest, be written at the beginning of the month that you turn 60.
Unemployment security for persons born in 1950 and later
If you were born in 1950 or later you are entitled to a continued unemployment allowance instead of unemployment pension. If you turn 59 before you have received unemployment allowance for 500 days you have the right to continued unemployment allowance until the age of 65. The prerequisite is that you have been gainfully employed for 5 years out of the past 20 years. When you turn 62 you may retire on an old-age pension without a reduction for early retirement being implemented.
