Applying for disability pension or partial disability pension

Applying for disability pension

Use the disability pension application form to apply for disability pension.

Attach a medical statement B to the application. It is recommended that the statement be made by your occupational health care physician or attending physician.

If you are on an extended sick leave, you are entitled to a daily allowance under the Sickness Allowance Act, paid by the Social Insurance Institution (Kela). The daily allowance is normally applied for before applying for disability pension. During the daily allowance period Kela will inform you about rehabilitation possibilities, income security for the rehabilitation period and possibly applying for a disability pension. You should apply for disability pension if your attending physician estimates that your incapacity to work will continue for at least one year.

Applying for partial disability pension

You can apply for partial disability pension while still working full time. You do not need to be absent from work on sick leave before applying for the pension. A prerequisite for applying is, however, a medical statement B from a physician stating that the duration of the illness is expected to be at least one year.

Partial disability pension can be applied for using the application form for disability pension.

Attach a medical statement B to the application. It is recommended that the statement be made by your occupational health care physician or attending physician.

If you are eligible for partial disability pension, Keva will first provide you with a preliminary decision on your pension, after which you have nine months to decide whether to accept the pension.
