Applying for local government old-age pension
When you have decided to retire on an old-age pension or early old-age pension, visit your workplace pension ombudsman or other person responsible for pension issues. They will provide you with pension application information. You should also resign at this point if you have not done so earlier.
Old-age pension and early old-age pension should be applied for around two months before retirement.
Fill in an electronic application together with your workplace pension ombudsman or other person responsible for pension issues. Use the same application to apply for old-age pension for employment other than municipal employment that has already ended or is now ending. Your old-age pension for private employment will begin when you turn 63.
If your workplace does not yet have an electronic pension application form you can apply for old-age pension and early old-age pension using a paper VE form. Attach to your application a notification of the end date of your employment (appendix VE) signed by your employer. Your workplace’s personnel administration will provide you with the notification form. If you have worked abroad, also attach an appendix U to the application.
If you are no longer employed by the municipality you can apply for old-age pension using a paper form.
Applying for state or church old-age pension
Apply for old-age pension 2 to 3 months before retirement using the VE form. To receive old-age pension, you must comply with the required age limit and your employment must have terminated.
In addition to applying for the pension, you should resign from your post or employment in compliance with the statutory notice period. After this, your employer can send the pension institution a notification of termination of employment, which is required before calculating and granting the pension.
You will find all the forms and attachments on the "Lomakkeet" page (only in Finnish).
